講座內(nèi)容:Network biology, an emerging area focusingon various biomolecular networks, is a multidisciplinary intersection ofmathematics, computer sciences, and molecular biology. With burgeoninghigh-throughput data, various types of biomolecular networks can beconstructed. Typical biomolecular networks include protein-protein interactionnetworks, gene regulatory networks, metabolic networks, signal-transductionnetworks, drug-target networks, gene-disease networks, co-expression networks, association networks, and so on. These networks can be depicted as (un)directedgraphs, where nodes (vertices) represent molecules while edges (links)represent interactions/associations among molecules. Biomolecular networksprovide us great opportunities from studying individual components tounderstanding functional modules of biomolecular systems, cells, organs andeven entire organisms. In past years I and my colleagues (my students andcollaborators) have developed an array of computational methods to mine theknowledge from biomolecular networks. In this seminar, I will talk about someof our recently developed methods for identifying essential proteins, diseasegenes, and drug targets from various biomolecular networks.
